Although the national news did not carry much coverage, Houston received up to 35 inch of rain in a five day period last week. What looked like rivers were actually 12 lane highways with water covering 18 wheelers. I have never seen anything like it in my life; estimates are $1 billion in property damage.

What does this have to do with prospecting?

Well, the entire back of our subdivision was totally under water. I watched as people with boats sailed up the streets and went to each home...knocked on the door...and asked if they could help.

THEY WERE LOOKING FOR PEOPLE
THEY COULD HELP

Now, some people were ready to get out...the
kids were crying, they had no power or phone, and they gladly accepted a ride to dry land.


THEY WERE THE PEOPLE YOU COULD HELP

On the other hand, others wanted to stay with their homes. Maybe they were afraid of looters or wanted to carry more furniture up to the second floor. For whatever reason, they chose to weather the storm.


THEY WERE NOT THE PEOPLE YOU COULD HELP.

If the boaters went to a home and the homeowners did not want to go to shore, did they quit? Did they get depressed,or feel rejected, because someone turned down their offer? No...

THEY WENT TO THE NEXT HOUSE
TO SEE IF THEY COULD HELP.

These neighbors worked long, long hours and did not give up until everyone in the neighborhood was contacted. Why?...

THEY WANTED TO HELP
AS MANY PEOPLE AS THEY COULD.

Do you know what other characteristic they all had? After all, THEY weren't under water and had not lost power.

THEY WERE THINKING OF OTHERS...
NOT THEMSELVES.
