Here is a way to tell if someone is serious....even you....

I wanted to pass along some tips I use when working with new reps, as well as some ideas picked up in our group training this week.

At the end of a strategy session, I lay out the Four Components that we provide to each new representative. Then I say, Now, everyone who joins our organization is provided with the same four components. Yet some will go on to be quite successful while others will not. Why do you think that is?

It forces us to understand that the only variable brought to a given company is us. We are the final component.

So, how to stay self-motivated:

1. Moving magnets - Everyone has refrigerator has two sides: the refrigerated section and the freezer section. Commit to how many people you will talk to on the days you are scheduled to work your business. Put that same number of magnets on your refrigerator. Move one from one section of your refrigerator to the other for each call you make. At the end of the day, you can tell my simply glancing at your refrigerator before bedtime, whether or not you met the goal you set for yourself.

2. Building a group. During our strategy session, each new team member is given an assignment, which should probably take about 15 minutes. (In fact, I think Big Al suggests having someone read a book.) We ask they turn in the assignment within 48 hours. About 50-70% will.

So let us say your goal is to build a group of 10 people. If they submit their assignment, their name goes on your white board. They have shown that they are serious about their business. If someone doesn't turn it in, I have found they are not ready to get started on their business yet. That's fine, just don't put their name on your white board.

So, you will continue to build your group until you have 10 names on your whiteboard. If someone who originally declined to participate decides to do it later, their name is added, etc.

Now, this does two things. First of all, you know that you need to be proactive about enrolling until you have 10 names on your whiteboard.

Secondly, if someone drops out, see if their name was on your white board (it probably wasn't). I have found that this dramatically cuts down on the frustration reps feel when they have someone leave.
